Please stop asking me if I’m cured of my incurable illness…

“How are you feeling?”

“Has your stomach virus gone?”

“Aren’t you better yet?”

These are just a few things I’ve had said to me before.

Let’s get one thing straight, my chronic illness is currently incurable.

Both Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis are forms of inflammatory bowel disease, there is currently no cure for either disease.

Many cases of both can result in life long medication, surgery and in less common cases sometimes death.

I know you’re probably thinking ” wow I won’t ask how you are next time”, to me it isn’t about that.

Thank you for asking how I am

I do appreciate your concern, whilst it’s nice that you care, the constant  “it’s just a tummy bug” comments have to stop.

It’s a lot more serious than just a tummy bug.

I know it’s hard to understand what I’m going through.

No one will ever understand, unless you go through it.

I know it may seem like I’m coming across a bit rude but it’s mentally draining sometimes.

“You should try just eating healthier it will cure you”

“I know how it feels i had the runs last week”

“Why don’t you just have surgery it will be done and dusted then?”

The amount of people I’ve had giving me medical advice when they have no medical training has been unbelievable, you’re no doctor so I won’t be taking your advice.

I appreciate you’re trying to help but it’s not helpful.

“My aunties friends cat had that and now she’s cured”

No amount of healthy eating, exercise, aloe vera or juice plus will EVER cure my disease.

My life has changed for good, even if I was to go into a period of remission, my disease could flare up at anytime, mostly when I least expect it too.

It’s hard to come to terms living with a chronic incurable illness.

We’re trying our best.
